Generate · store · use

Solar panels and battery storage designed as one energy system.

Combining solar PV with battery storage allows a home to generate electricity during daylight hours and retain surplus generation for use later. NS Booth designs MCS-certified solar and battery systems around the property, electricity consumption and the way energy is actually used.

One coordinated system

Generate electricity when the sun is available. Store surplus energy. Use it later.

Solar panels and battery storage solve different parts of the same problem. Solar PV generates electricity; the battery gives you greater control over when some of that electricity is used.

01 · Generate

Solar panels convert daylight into electricity for use within the property.

02 · Store

When generation exceeds immediate demand, compatible battery storage can retain surplus energy.

03 · Use

Stored electricity can support the home later when solar generation has reduced or stopped.

System sizing

The biggest system is not automatically the best system.

We consider usable roof space, orientation, shading and expected solar generation alongside your electricity consumption and when that electricity is used.

Battery capacity should also reflect realistic surplus generation, evening or overnight demand, tariff strategy and future changes such as an EV or heat pump.

Estimate solar savings

Grid flexibility

The battery does not have to rely only on sunshine.

Compatible systems may also support scheduled grid charging. This can allow lower-rate electricity to be stored for later use and can complement solar generation during periods when daylight is limited.

What determines a solar and battery system design?

Roof & generation

Usable roof area, orientation, pitch and shading determine the practical solar array and expected generation.

Energy demand

Annual consumption matters, but the times of day when electricity is used are equally important when storage is being considered.

Future demand

Electric vehicles, heat pumps and other electrification can materially change future electricity consumption.

Completed installations

See solar and battery systems installed by NS Booth.

Real installations demonstrate how different properties require different combinations of generation, storage and electrical infrastructure.

Questions answered

Solar panels and battery storage FAQs.

Is it better to install solar panels and a battery together?

Installing them together allows generation and storage to be considered as one system from the outset. However, battery storage can also be added to many existing solar installations following a compatibility assessment.

What happens when the battery is full?

Once immediate household demand and available battery charging have been satisfied, surplus solar electricity can normally be exported to the grid subject to the system configuration and connection arrangements.

Do solar panels still work when the battery is empty?

Yes. Solar PV and battery storage perform different functions. The solar array can continue generating electricity whenever suitable daylight is available, regardless of whether stored battery energy has previously been used.

Can I add more battery capacity later?

This depends on the battery platform, existing equipment and system configuration. If future expansion is important, it should be considered when the original system is specified.
