Renewable Energy - Solar PV Calculator

Assumptions: Solar PV Panels are of a capacity of 420 watts. Each panel is capable of producing on average 2.5 hours of energy per day on average over a 12 month period. Actual solar generation will depend on the types and capacity of panels installed, their orientation relative to south and actual weather conditions (solar panels can generate power on cloudy days). This calculator assumes that a battery installed with a system will store a proportion of energy to be used when the solar array is not generating enough energy to satisfy the demands of the property. The calculator assumes 70% of the energy generated will be used when installing a battery and 30% when a battery is not installed with the system.

Further benefits of a Solar PV System installed with a battery can be achieved using a dual tariff energy provider such as the Octopus Energy Go Tariff which supplies 4-6 hours of discounted energy during night hours. This can then be used to charge a battery which can then be configured to power your property at times when solar generation is not sufficient to meet the demands of the property. Additional benefits can be achieved by installing devices to direct surplus energy from solar pv to services such as an EV charger or electric hot water emersion heater.
